Who will turn out to be the Ulster Blitz Champion?

SHE COULD HAVE MADE IT FOR FREE

What about this wee girl making a "music video" and paying chess players to take part in it?
Here is the appeal for chess players.

She could have come to the Ulster Bank Club, which is the venue of BSI or she could have come to Ballynafeigh Chess Club and the video would have bee made for free!

There is one born very minute.

Here is her video.

These women drove King Saul insane with jealousy with their music and singing.
1 Samuel 18:6+7
6. And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
7. And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

THE PLAN FOR ROOKIE`S RETURN

Suggestions, hints, pleas and gentle coaxing have been given to "Rookie" AKA Martin Kelly to take over the running of the BSI website.  It is well known Martin has a treasure trove of archives from old Irish News Columns which would be interesting to see published.

Hopefully Rookie will set about the task in 2014.

ABBRIEVIATION

From now on I will be using the term BSI 1 to describe "Belfast South International."

Any subsequent teams will be designated BSI 2 and so on.
It saves time doing it this way.

1 Cor 7:29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short:

THE NAIVE WORLD OF ULSTER CHESS

Quite a lot of heated and amusing discussion is talking place on various Ulster Chess websites about the league format and other related matters.

However a quick perusal of a few of the latest news items regarding government funding sheds a whole new light on the Ulster Chess scene.  As you can see from the two news reports below, millions of pounds of government funding has been lavished on certain sporting set-ups, yet Ulster Chess gets nothing!

Irish Football Association gets £31 million. ????????
There is more!
Gaelic Athletic Association gets £61 million. ????????

Ulster Chess gets ZERO ??????????????????????

For the benefit of overseas readers I must point out that the local N.Ireland government is well known for lavishing large sums of money on undeserving and useless enterprises.

Even worse, there are a large number of useless individuals who are termed "Community Representatives,"  or "Community Activists," or even "Community Workers" who are plied with large sums of money just to keep them happy.

Most of these "Community Representatives" are too daft to play chess and have no interest in playing chess.  What they do have is the expertise to intimidate and shakedown the government into providing them with cash.

The video clip below provides a satirical snapshot of the character exhibited by some of these "Community Activists."
Luke Back In Anger.

If "Uncle Andy" started "The Knee-breakers Chess Club,"  "Red Hand Luke" started "The Red Hand Chess Club" and "Pastor Begbie" started the "Begbie Bishops Chess Club,"  they would be receiving government funding from all sources.

Pastor Begbie

Within a short space of time they would be the most well funded chess clubs in the whole of the UK.  Within a couple of years the Ulster Chess Union would be the most prosperous Chess Union in the whole of the UK or even the whole of Europe!

The whole matter can be summed up like this;

The people who know how to shake down the government do not know how to play chess and furthermore have no interest in playing chess BUT the people who do know how to play chess do not know how to shake down the government!

2 Samuel 13:3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

BANGOR

Just found out last night that Bangor Chess Club has a Facebook page. Here is the link to it.

For those who are not from N.Ireland, you may like to know that Bangor is classified as one of  those, "British picturesque sea-side towns."

It is situated in North Down which is one of the most desirable areas of the country.

Being N.Ireland, it will come as no surprise to find out Bangor Chess Club is not situated in Bangor, it is actually situated in Groomsport, a slightly smaller, "British picturesque sea-side town."

TONIGHT`S RESULT

Here is a short video clip taken just before the match started. My game with Paul was last finished so I never had the chance to film anymore.

The result of tonight`s postponed match was;
South Belfast 2  Bangor 3

South Belfast were fortunate to scrape two points, the defeat could have been heavier. Paul McLaughlin graciously offered me a draw when I had only seconds left on the clock.

Still two hard matches left to play, the first against Ballynafeigh 1 and the second is a re-arranged game against Lindores.  Both matches are at home so Belfast South face 6 whites against four whites to finish the first half of the season.

Rookie will be publishing  a full report of tonight`s match some time tomorrow.

LOOKING FOR A PRESENT FOR SOMEONE OR YOURSELF?

If you want to buy a present for Danny Mallaghan or Cahal Murphy you could try this. They both have been playing the Accelerated Dragon, I came across Cahal playing it last night during the South Belfast Monday tournament.

Personally speaking I have found this series by Victor Bologan very useful for learning to play the Open Sicilian as white.  There is a lot of work involved you should be warned but the three videos probably lessens the workload considerably.
